JP: i chose these two images as my self portraits because i think they speak of my current attitude. for these pictures i was sitting on my front porch with my best friend in a huge wood chair with gross cushions. i am in a tank top and underwear, without a care. i feel like the girl in the first picture when i am studying for the GRE and applying to grad schools, as well as working on my comp. I feel like the giggly girl when with my friends and boyfriend. i like the nighttime because i can unwind and let go of the days events. i am in my purest, rawest, most favorite form: hair down, make up off, no pants and a comfy shirt.
RS: Nice idea using the darkness and the 'natural' porch lighting--it creates a mood and seems to set us up to look into the highlight areas for the details we need to get a sense of your personality. I think being more aware of the objects in the background and their placement would aid the image and its readability. Let the objects help convey who you are - where you are - not just be there appearing a little bit and not helping tell a story or at least not giving enough to help tell the story. You mentioned in class about how its an old fridge that is just a seat now---that speaks of who and where you are, but is there enough info to let that tell us that part of the story?
