RS: We chatted about this in class at some length. There is a difference between a depiction of a likeness and a portrait. This pictures is centered and not heavily considered in terms of composition, mood, lighting, details to lead us to understand something deeper about the subject. It is what we refer to as a mug shot, an image that simple gives a view of what the person looks like. My thoughts are when I see an image like this is I can look at the person and get that--when I take my time to look at a picture I want to come away with something I didn't know before.
